Aillwee Cave & Burren Birds of Prey

Updated: Jan 14, 2019

Fun short walk through some cave systems under and get up close and personal with some beautiful birds of prey!

Aillwee Cave and Burren Birds of Prey is a must do if you are in the Ballyvaughan area! We started out by touring the cave. The entrance is within a cute little gift shop and cafe. As you go through the cave you will see a few stalagtights and stalagmites. You will also see some old hibernation mounds made by brown bears that used to be in the area but have since gone extinct. You will also get a beautiful view and up close to one of the waterfalls in the cave. It is quite spectacular to see in person.

Just down the hill from Aillwee Cave you will find the Burren Birds of Prey Centre. This awesome little establishment will fly some birds of prey for you. You are also able to see the bird averies where they have many different varieties of birds of prey. If you are lucky you will even get the chance to hold John Snow the snowy owl!

Lastly you definitely want to check out the Farm Shop across from the Burren Birds of Prey building. It has locally made honey, fudge, cheese, jams and so much more! If you are looking for good authentic gifts to bring home this is the place! There are also some short, pretty trail systems between Aillwee Cave and the Burren Birds of Prey buildings so definitely check that out as well. It costs €10 to do both Aillwee Cave and Burren Birds of Prey and is more than worth it!
