Ballyvaughan Pier Walk

Updated: Jan 13, 2019

Beautiful, calming, short walk out to one of Ballyvaughan's historic piers.

This short 20 minute round trip walk is well worth it! It starts right outside of downtown Ballyvaughan just before the bridge on Rent an Irish Cottage Road. If you go on a clear day you will see Galway across the bay especially if you go in the evening the lights from Galway light up the sky! You will pass a neat accommodation option in the area called Rent an Irish Cottage on your right. As you continue down the road you will see some private residents on the right as well as a cow pasture where I ran into some friendly faces. As you continue down the road you will eventually run into one of the original piers of Ballyvaughan. Today this pier is mostly just for personal use and is not a big port. You will see a few smaller fishing boats and some sail boats as well. At the very end of the walk, it dead ends in a parking lot, there is an older abandoned building that is interesting to see and a little creepy if you go in the evening! On your walk back you will get a good view of Monk's, one of the main pubs in Ballyvaughan.
