Corcomroe Abbey

pixelponyphotography

Beautiful historic abbey ruins and cemetery in the countryside!

Corcomroe Abbey is about a 15 minute drive from Ballyvaughan. Founded in the late 12th century it housed the Cistercian Order. In 1194 the monastery was founded by Donal More O Brien King of Thomond. By the 15th century the church was too poor to continue housing a full monastery of monks. This slowly led to its decline and finally it was left to decay. As you approach the abbey you will see the infirmary building on your right. Monks are buried inside the abbey and the local people now use the surrounding area as a cemetery. One of the original monks has a sarcophagus to left inside the only roofed area.

Hi there! I am Josa Comstock and I am a professional photographer. I received my associates in art at College of Lake County and I am working on my BFA in Commercial Photography at Columbia College Chicago. I specialize in equine, portrait and travel photography but photograph pretty much anything that comes my way. I shoot both digitally and in film. I am the official photographer for Spring Grove Horse Show, L-Theory Collective and Pospeshil Performing Arts Co. I have photographed in China, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, and all across the USA. My work has been featured in the Fox River Valley Horse Trials website and the USEA article "A-Z of Eventing". And lastly but certainly not least I photograph for both John Borys Photography and Andrew Ryback Photography. Read more about me here Pixel Pony Photography.
