Monroe's Tavern in Galway

Updated: Jan 14, 2019

Delicious food and a great atmosphere!

While walking around Galway I ran into this awesome restaurant and pub. Just across the way from the Shopping Street and a little in from the coast it is a great stop on your way to the Galway Cathedral. Monroe's has both a pub and regular seating and is kid friendly. If you stop here you must must MUST get the Galway muscles in white wine and garlic sauce as a starter. They are absolutely scrumptious! After that you really can not go wrong with their menu. I got some tomato and red pepper soup with brown bread and a house brewed beer. My travel buddy got the fish and chips. Both plates were delicious and the perfect serving size. I read some signs that they also have live music occasionally so definitely something to look into if you are staying in the area for the evening. You will also notice if you get up and walk around that all the lamps are made out of bottles! There is also a pretty mural in the back wing of the building so make sure to get up and check it out!
